Hi.

Welcome to my book blog.  My annual goal is to read 100 books per year and share my love of reading with my two daughters.

We Should All Be Feminists
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
ISBN 110191176X

Adichie brilliantly distills her approach to feminism in this essay and responds to the most common critiques of modern feminism with artistic finesse.  It makes me sad that in this day of modern politics there are not more thinkers like Adichie running for political office.

I read Adichie's Americanah earlier this year, which I loved... so when I heard about this essay it immediately went on my "to-read" list.  I was not disappointed.   I was continually taken aback by truthful observations like:

The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn't have the weight of gender expectations.

Yes.  Yes.  YES.  Adichie speaks with a heartful voice that is impossible to dismiss.  I absolutely love her and I cannot wait to see what she publishes next.
